Body of rafter recovered in Elmore County
The body of a man who died in a rafting accident June 26 on the South Fork of the Boise River was recovered Thursday, according to the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office.
Richard Arave, who was rafting with his son, fell off his raft when it overturned in the Buffalo Creek rapids in Elmore County. Arave disappeared into the rapids.
The ECSO worked with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation to slow the water June 28, a process which took nine hours. Later that day, searchers found Arave’s body in a dangerous section of the river.
They were able to recover Arave’s body Thursday around 4:50 p.m. once the water level was dropped to under 1,000 cfs. His remains were taken by raft to the Neal Bridge and then transported to the Elmore County Coroner’s office, according to ECSO.
